Answers to Our Most Frequently Asked Questions

Classes & Registration

  • Please email us at info@twotailsswim.com. Let us know a little about your swim background and which classes you’re interested in, and we will send you the applicable pricing and registration information.

  • All of our classes, with the exception of the Women-Only Beginner 1 & 2 classes, are on-going, which means you can join at any time.

New sessions of the Women-Only Beginner 1 & 2 classes start approximately every 8 weeks. Our next session will be starting late October or early November.

    • The Beginner 1 & 2 lessons are 50 minutes.

    • The Advanced Beginner class is 55 minutes.

    • The Intermediate group swims for 60 minutes on Mondays and 75 minutes on Thursdays.

    • The Technical Training for Masters & Triathletes group swims for 75 minutes.

  • Our beginner classes often have a waitlist ranging from a few weeks to a few months, so it's best to contact us as soon as you think you might be interested in learning to swim so we can add you to the list.

Our more advanced classes allow for larger rosters, so we’re generally able to get you started right away.

  • Most definitely! A lot of swimmers prefer 1:1 instruction until they feel ready to join a group class. We think this is a great strategy!

  • Absolutely! Many of our swimmers swim for exercise, anxiety/stress-relief, enjoyment and many other reasons. We will recommend the class that best matches your swim abilities, and we’ll put you with teammates who have similar goals. No matter what, we have a class for everyone!

  • Yes! We would love to put together a closed class for you and your family/friends! Just let us know the number of people (between 3-15) and your availability, and we will email you some options.

  • No problem! As long as you are actively enrolled with us, you are eligible to attend make-up lessons at another one of our classes.

  • Everyone is different, so it’s impossible to predict. Swimming is a technical sport that requires commitment and consistency. Set realistic expectations, and then enjoy the process with us!

What Sets Us Apart

  • Here are a few differences that set our one-of-a-kind program apart from others.

    • Teaching adults requires a different skillset than teaching children. We specialize in working with adults, and have taught hundreds of adults to swim. We have it down to a science, and we know what works and what doesn’t.

    • We are creative problem-solvers always researching and searching for answers to the trickiest situations. There’s never going to be a scenario that we will shy away from.

    • Our lessons are scheduled when the pool isn’t in use for youth lessons, so you will have a quiet, private space to focus.

    • We offer classes at every level, so as your swim skills grow, our program grows with you.

    • We are technique experts, so you can have confidence that you’re learning correctly every step of the way.

    • We recognize the therapeutic benefits (both physical and emotional) of water. Most of our swimmers are pleasantly surprised to find peace and joy in the water. For swimmers who are afraid of the water, this can be especially healing.

    • We are USA Swimming certified coaches, we coach competitive youth and high-level athletes/triathletes, and we are swimmers ourselves.

    • Our focus on technique helps athletes swim farther and faster with less effort.

    • Our workouts are the perfect blend of technique, distance, pacing and speed that prepare swimmers to crush their goals.

    • Unlike coaches who work solo and can only give you the best that one coach can offer, we work as a team. With both coaches bringing different perspectives, you benefit from having two skilled coaches in your corner.

Swim Attire & Equipment

  • Within reason, whatever you feel comfortable in. Clothing specifically designed for the water generally has less drag, is lighter and makes swimming easier. However, some swimmers prefer to wear athletic clothing or their regular clothes, and that is perfectly fine. We can work with you to give you options.

  • In addition to swimwear and a towel:

For our Beginner 1 and 2 classes, you’ll just need goggles and a swim cap (optional).

For our Advanced Beginner class, you’ll need goggles, a swim cap (optional) and swim fins.*

For our Intermediate and Technical Training for Masters & Triathletes (TTMT) classes, you’ll need goggles, a swim cap (optional), swim fins,* a pull buoy, and hand paddles (optional).

*We recommend the following brands of mid-length swim fins: Speedo, Finis and Sporti, however, you can wear any swim fins you prefer.

Worries & Concerns

  • No, you are never too old to learn to swim! We teach adults of all ages, and as long as you are committed to coming to your lessons and trying your best, we believe you can learn to swim.

  • Please don’t give up on swimming! Most swim schools/instructors underestimate the skillset required to be an excellent swim instructor for adults. We regularly teach swimmers who have tried to learn elsewhere and couldn’t, and they are usually surprised by the success they have with us.

  • Yes! Yes! Yes! We will teach you swim skills that put you in control of the water, so swimming can be safe and enjoyable as you gain confidence and work to overcome your fears.

A large part of our program is dedicated to working with fearful swimmers. In fact, most adults who haven’t learned to swim have some anxiety in the water. We celebrate your courage, and will make sure you always feel supported and never judged as we rebuild your relationship with the water.

  • Yes! Nowadays, women have several options available to them, from feminine hygiene products to specific swimwear that make it possible to swim when you have your period. We are always happy to share more information with you to help you find your best solution.
